Being a book lover, sometimes we judge a book by its cover. We like to see different colors and typographies, and sometimes we decide what our next lecture is just because we find the cover very appealing.
Book covers tend to build suspense and catch people’s attention right away. Their illustrations and complex images have some mysterious elements that hint some details about the story, but you probably will not notice until after you have read it. It is like a small sneak peek but very subtle.
But what are about 2021’s book cover? Which ones are the trendiest designs?
- Blurry book covers
Mainly used in mystery or thriller books, as they seem to have something hidden in their covers. They build suspense from their cover to the last page of the book by not revealing anything. Blurry images, weather it is a picture of a person or a place, the riddle will not be solved until you finish reading the whole story. Glitch art is used in these book covers too!
- Patterns across the cover!
The use of bold patterns both front and back covers of book is it very much expected to be seen throughout 2021. This trend has been going on for over a few months and it does not seem it will stop anytime soon. It catches everyone’s attention, and it almost calls you from their shelves in order to pick them up and take them home with you.
- Sketches on the cover
We know we are in front of a big, shocking story when we see that there is a rough sketch on its cover. It looks like the artist took their first sketch out of his notes and published it without even having a second look at it. These book covers are meant to let the readers know that the stories told inside it will be rough and straight from the heart, sometimes they do not even have a happy ending because their story is filled with drama and emotions.
- Pixels on a book cover? Is that possible?
Well, it is and it has been used throughout 2021 so far. Many book cover artists get inspired by technology and they tend to use elements we associate with computers in their covers. How? For example, we could see book covers containing lines of codes on their designs or a typography like a computer’s typo. It is simple yet effective, since it really creates a cool aesthetic!
- Hidden titles
Of course, we could all read the title, but sometimes it is partially hidden between drops of blood or even mirror pieces. It sure attracts our eyes to its cover right away because of the interruption of the title and our curious eyes will want to know more about it. Teasing the readers could be technique to draw their attention to the book, but it sure does work because once we see the book cover, we want to know more about the story too!
