The film takes place in the Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria against the historical backdrop of Spanish colonialism and the Morroccan invasion of the Western Sahara. The Saharawi women, who make up 80% of the adult refugee population, provide a powerful voice as they reveal how they came to assume primary responsibility for the survival of the remains of their families and in turn the entire refugee population. This documentary provides vital historical background to a situation that receives little attention in the media. It is of interest to Middle Eastern Studies, African Studies, International Human Rights and Women's Studies.
"An exemplary documentary that puts the viewer right in the middle of the Saharawi experience." Barbara Holecek, Filmmaker, Fellow at W.E.B. Dubois Institute, Harvard University
