Some genuinely great movies created after the demise of the studio system, the seventies American renaissance, and the slow dying out of the European/Japanese auteur refulgence, with 1980 as the arbitrary cut off date and a special nod to the Honk Kong, uh, decadus mirabalus, or whatever the Latin is for “many, many miracle years”. And I should have put Raiders of the Lost Ark on, but that’ll show up on “We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Screen—movies too frigging big for a 2000 inch plasma” or else I’m an artsy fool.
